Maggie Abbott

Maggie is a Canadian Certified Counsellor and a Certified Perinatal Mental Health Clinician with a master degree in Counselling Psychology from Memorial University of Newfoundland and Labrador.  She has over a decade of experience working with children, teens, adults, and families in various capacities including the non-profit, education, and health sectors.  Maggie is a member of the Canadian Association for Play Therapy (CAPT) and Postpartum Support International (PSI). 

 

Maggie believes in creating a safe and non-judgemental space for her clients so they can work collaboratively to set individualized therapeutic goals.  She takes an eclectic approach to counselling, drawing primarily from Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Solution-Focused Therapy. In addition, Maggie has post-graduate training in OCD and Exposure Response Prevention (ERP), Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR), Play Therapy, Perinatal Mental Health, Anxiety, Grief, Trauma, and child development.

 

Maggie has extensive experience and a love for supporting children, teens, and their families.  She offers support to this population in the areas of anxiety, OCD, grief and loss, trauma, challenging behaviour, parenting support, emotional regulation, self-esteem, and relationship challenges.  Her work with this population is often informed by her training in Play Therapy and child development.  Her therapy space has a sandtray, puppets, games, art and craft supplies.

 

Maggie also provides counselling services to adults.  She discovered a passion for working with adults who are experiencing trauma and grief through supporting survivors of sexual abuse and newcomers to Canada.  In addition, her experience with becoming a new mom during the heights of the COVID-19 pandemic has drawn her to the area of perinatal mental health and working with individuals during pregnancy, postpartum, fertility challenges, and loss.  She also provides support for adults who are experiencing anxiety, OCD, depression, stress, relationship challenges, parenting challenges, and life transitions. 

 

Maggie enjoys working with clients of all ages and is accepting referrals for children, teens, adults, families, and the perinatal population.  The fee for a 50-minute session is $150 plus HST.  Receipts are provided for insurance reimbursement/tax purposes.  Your session may be covered by insurance under clinical counselling and/or naturopath provider categories.

Becky is a Canadian Certified Counsellor with a master's degree in Counselling Psychology from Memorial University of Newfoundland. She has worked alongside adults, children, and teens for over a decade in various community and private-sector supportive roles. Becky is a warm, down-to-earth therapist who focuses on practical solutions to both everyday problems and complex issues. She believes that people have the solutions, but can often use a little help getting there. 

 

Becky has extensive experience supporting people who drink, use substances, and/or are harmed by their substance use. She takes a harm-reduction approach to helping people live their lives more safely with substances and increasing their whole-person wellness. She also specializes in working with young people on their mental health, including working with neurodivergent youth and children. Becky has completed The Gottman Method training for couples and marriage therapy. She enjoys working with all couples and helping people navigate healthier relationships- including queer and 2SLGBTQIA+ relationships. She also has years of experience supporting people that have experienced trauma, as well as gender-based violence (including family violence, intimate partner violence, sexual assault, etc.).

 

 

Becky is a solution-focused practitioner, integrating narrative, feminist, and motivational interviewing lenses. She takes a pragmatic approach to adapting therapy for the person sitting in the chair, and what works best for them. She also offers some creative approaches to counseling, such as Walk-and-Talk therapy, for those who benefit from something a little less traditional.

Chantel is a Canadian Certified Counselor who holds a bachelors degree in Fine Arts (Theatre) and Education (primary/elementary), in addition to a masters in Counselling Psychology. She is also a member of the Canadian Association of Child and Play Therapy (CAPT), Postpartum Support International (PSI) and EMDRIA.

As a trained EMDR therapist, Chantel specialized in helping individuals process and overcome trauma. EMDR is a powerful therapeutic approach that facilitates the reprocessing of distressing memories, allowing clients to experience relief from the emotional and psychological impact of trauma.

The perinatal period is a unique and transformative time in an individual's life. Whether you are navigating the challenges of fertility, pregnancy, postpartum, or parenting, Chantel offers specialized support to address the emotional and psychological aspects of the perinatal journey. Her goal is to help you build resilience and find joy in this important life transition.

For children, adolescents, and even adults, play therapy is a powerful modality that allows for expression and healing through the language of play. Chantel utilizes creative and play-based interventions to help clients explore and process their thoughts, feelings, and experiences.

Jessica is a Certified Canadian Counsellor(CCC) and Naturopath (ND) holding a masters degree in Counselling Psychology from Memorial Univerity and a masters degree in Applied Behaviour Analysis from The University of Western Ontario. She is a member in good standing with the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association.

 

Jessica has extensive experience working with children and their families and offers counselling services to children (age 12 years and under), teens, parents/caregivers, and adults. She has a passion for supporting others facing challenges with anxiety, depression, behaviour challenges, emotional regulation, and parent/caregiver support. Jessica values creating an open, warm, and safe space to explore these challenges and provide support in navigating and creating change.  Jessica takes an eclectic approach to counselling drawing from Solution Focused Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and embraces a play-based model.

Tracy is a Certified Canadian Counsellor and holds a master degree in Counselling Psychology from Memorial University. She is a member in good standing with the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association. 
 

Tracy has 15+ years experience working with children, adolescents, and families in various capacities including the non-profit, education, and health sectors. She has worked with individuals who present with diverse social, emotional, and behavioral concerns and has extensive experience with child development, behaviour challenges, and parenting support. 
 

Tracy uses a trauma informed, integrated approach drawing from Solution Focused Therapy, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Mindfulness, and Dialectical Behavior Therapy,  to help individuals struggling with a variety of concerns.  She is passionate about supporting children, adolescents, and families who are facing challenges related to anxiety, depression, behaviour challenges, emotional regulation, and sexuality. Her goal is to work with clients to set personal and educational goals, develop positive self-identity, and establish meaningful relationships.

Crystal is a registered social worker with the Newfoundland and Labrador College of Social Workers. She holds both a bachelor and master’s degree from Memorial University. Crystal has worked primarily with children, adolescents and families for the past 15 years, in both government and community settings. 

​

Crystal practices from a trauma informed, strengths based approach. She believes connection and safety are key components in a therapeutic alliance and strives to ensure clients feel safe to show up as themselves. She strongly values the therapeutic use of self and using a collaborative approach with clients as they move toward healing. 

In her work with children, Crystal often utilizes play based approaches, alongside other interventions, to assist them in exploring areas of concern. Crystal has completed post graduate training through the Institute of Child Psychology as well as the Canadian Association for Play Therapy.

As all individuals are unique, interventions and skills used in session are client and family centered. When working with adolescents and adults, Crystal incorporates a variety of therapeutic strategies including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Solution Focused Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR).

Curtis Pittman

Curtis is a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying), Canadian Certified Counsellor, and Naturopath with a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University. He has worked primarily alongside adults, teens, and relationships and has completed post graduate training in Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy, The Developmental Model, Emotionally Focused Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and hormone care planning.

 

In his working alliances, Curtis values connection and authenticity. He believes a validating, safe space is crucial for exploring ourselves and our relationships. Taking an emotionally focused approach, Curtis understands that the health of our relationships is an indicator of our personal well-being. He is passionate about deepening clients’ emotional understanding and building healthy relational communication skills to support emotional fulfillment.

 

Curtis has lived experience within the 2SLGBTQIA+ and neurodivergent communities, which he integrates into his practice. Whether our counselling goals involve finding practical coping mechanisms, exploring our internal and relational weather, or seeking safety from external pressures, Curtis prioritizes a queer and neuro-affirming, empathic, non-judgemental approach.

 

In his spare time, Curtis enjoys socializing with family and friends, listening to a new audiobook, playing board games, and snuggling with his cat, Touton! He also spends time between his Newfoundland home and Ontario, where he visits his long-term partner and son.

Ashley is a registered clinical social worker with the Newfoundland and Labrador College of Social Workers and holds both a Master of Social Work and a Bachelor of Social Work degree from Memorial University of Newfoundland and Labrador. She has over 12 years of social work experience, working alongside individuals and families, within a variety of practice settings.

 

Ashley’s practice stems from a trauma-informed, strengths-based approach, with a focus on creating safe and inclusive spaces for all.  She is passionate about supporting adults and couples who are struggling with anxiety, depression, self-esteem, emotional regulation, grief/loss and relationship difficulties. Through an intentional emphasis on creating a warm, welcoming, and judgement-free space, Ashley’s objective is that clients feel a sense of hope, and find comfort in discussing and exploring the challenges they face and discovering strategies to help navigate them.  An integration of a variety of interventions and skills are used in sessions and will vary for each client, but can include elements of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Solution Focused Therapy, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).

Brad Yetman

Brad is a Canadian Certified Counsellor with a master's degree in Counselling Psychology from Memorial University of Newfoundland. He has recently returned back to St. John's, after coaching hockey for the last four years in Quebec. He has experience working alongside adults, teens, and groups in various roles both inside and outside of sports. Brad is an empathetic, kind therapist who focuses on establishing and maintaining a strong therapeutic relationship, while exploring practical solutions to both everyday problems and complex issues. 

 

Brad has experience supporting people who have generalized anxiety, social anxiety, and depression. He has experience working with substance use, harm, and the impact that it has on people's everyday lives. Further, Brad has an extensive background in the world of sports, especially hockey, and is passionate about working with athletes, and coaches, to help maximize their preparation, performance, and mental health in sport. He thrives on helping people find the positive in their everyday life, while being a consistent support.

 

With Brad, collaboration is of great importance! He takes a pragmatic approach to adapting therapy, while creating and fostering an environment of care and collaboration, to ensure that the client's needs are being met. She is currently completing a post-graduate certification in Neurorelational Child-Centered Play Therapy. Maggie has over ten years of experience working internationally in school and educational settings; she currently divides her time between working in private practice and the non-profit sector.

 

Maggie enjoys working with children, teens, and adults. Her sessions are informed by her training in a number of different therapeutic approaches, including Dialectical Behavioural Therapy, Emotionally focused Therapy, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy, Acceptance & Commitment Therapy, Narrative Therapy, and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, amongst others.  Maggie is particularly drawn to working in the areas of grief and loss, trauma, emotion regulation, and self-compassion. With children, Maggie enjoys incorporating creative play, and uses a sand tray, arts and crafts, and games to support young clients in their growth.

Courtney Simmonds

Courtney is a professional art therapist who holds a masters degree in Art Therapy from Concordia University, and is also a professional member of both the Canadian Art Therapy Association and the Canadian Counseling and Psychotherapy Association. Courtney works with children, youth, and adults online and in-person.

Courtney’s practice emphasizes a trauma-informed, holistic, and client-centered approach to treatment that aims to harness the power of creative and expressive arts in facilitating self-discovery, insight, and emotional wellbeing. Courtney’s goal as an art therapist is to provide a safe and collaborative space where individuals can feel supported in navigating their thoughts and experiences creatively. She has worked with youth, families, and older adults in a variety of settings including in treatment centers, public health, and in the area of youth protection.

Art therapy does not require any previous art experience; the practice is not about creating skillful art, but is instead about utilizing creative expression to foster growth and transformation. Courtney has experience using the modality to aid in healing and change for individuals struggling with anxiety, emotional regulation, behavioral challenges, and to reconnect the body and mind after experiences of trauma.

Claire is a registered clinical social worker with the Newfoundland and Labrador College of Social Workers. She holds a Bachelor of Social Work degree from Memorial University of Newfoundland and a Master of Social Work degree from the University of Toronto. She has five years of social work experience working with youth and adults in community settings.

 

During her master’s program, Claire did her practicum at Sunnybrook Hospital’s Frederick W Thompson Anxiety Disorders Centre intensive OCD program, the only inpatient OCD program in Canada. Through this, Claire was trained in and worked from a Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) – Exposure Response Prevention (ERP) model. Claire also uses Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Narrative Therapy in her practice. Claire is passionate about her work with OCD and in supporting youth and adults who are struggling with anxiety disorders, emotional regulation, and eating disorders. She is a strengths – based social worker who works from a trauma informed approach creating a warm and welcoming space for everyone.
